As a kid it used to just be Football Focus and MOTD, Saint & Greavsie, maybe the Big Match on ITV with Brian Moore, a bit of radio commentary on a Saturday, big games might occasionally be on in the week.


Nowadays there's a lot more channels, games are spread through the week and a lot more people are employed to talk ever more shit. Hence Boycie getting the raging hump.

For the pundits it's nice work if you can get it.

Me, well I just switch 'em off it's boring me shitless.

not all, i think murphy's pretty good and shearer's improved but the one's used on bt and sky are far too biased towards the so called bigger clubs. i like bellamy too

If you think our commentators are crap then you should try comparing them with the American "soccer" commentators who are real experts after a few years of getting on the world "soccer" stage, with their "defensive plays" & "attacking plays".

I wouldn’t know as I gave up listening to them a long time ago, but they used to and one would imagine that it has got an awful lot worse.

Good luck to anyone lucky enough to get paid to waffle though, just don’t expect me to watch.

It would all be a lot more palatable if it wasn’t so benign but all old has-beens are wannabe coaches or managers and are wary of upsetting anyone in case effects their future employment credentials, limited as they are.

For fuck sake say what needs to be said and stop worry about standing on too many toes.

The only value I can see that they add is when they break down a specific move or section of play, and suggest what went wrong or right, and how different positioning of certain players etc would have changed things.

There is some benefit. MOTD2 was really good for our game. They had Jenas showing exactly how our midfield of Noble, Obiang and Rice won the game for us. He then showed lost of examples with them all linked by a yellow line on the screen and how they kept in their triangle and when one of them moved out the other moved to keep the shape. Was really good and stuff you don't see when watching the game.
